About the role:
FHR has an opening for a Senior Consultant to join our Public Affairs & Corporate Reputation teams. This role is for a communications professional who holds an excellent understanding of public policy and the federal government, and ideally also brings relevant experience in client relations and program/project management within the Corporate Reputation sector.
Under the direction of Senior Leadership, the successful candidate will play an integral role in supporting the advancement of our Public Affairs and Corporate Reputation practice groups by delivering government/media relations strategy, conducting complex research, issues monitoring & reporting, and driving results for our clients.
Responsibilities:
• Provide counsel to clients on a wide range of government and public affairs needs, including direct advocacy, stakeholder engagement, supporting strategy development, issues and reputation management, traditional media and social media
• Support the development and implementation of integrated public affairs programs for clients
• Build strong relationships with clients and serve as the day-to-day client contact on multiple client accounts
• Support the development of client messaging, executive positioning, presentations to government and other communications materials that resonate with government audiences
• Provide support to senior management on business development and contribute to the identification of new opportunities
• Maintain budget trackers and activity reports for clients
• Contribute to a collaborative work environment, including coaching and mentoring team members, effectively delegating work and providing frequent and constructive feedback
• Other duties as required
Qualifications:
• 3-4 years min of experience in a government or public affairs role
• Previous client service experience in a corporate communications role - public relations/public affairs agency is preferred
• Bilingual in English in French would be considered a strong asset
• Experience building relationships and working effectively with diverse stakeholders
• Superior writing skills, with the ability to develop and edit high-quality materials such as briefing notes, position papers, fact sheets, overviews of government initiatives and presentations
• Ability to work in a dynamic environment, meet deadlines without sacrificing quality, maintain good client relationships and deliver extraordinary results
• A basic understanding of agency financials and experience in budgeting and project management is considered an asset
• Sound knowledge of political, legislative and regulatory processes, as well as government policies and procedures
• Strong understanding of strategic communications and experience in traditional, digital and emerging media and platforms is considered an asset
• Ability to demonstrate confidence when engaging with senior leaders
• High degree of judgment, discretion, tact, and insight
• Must be able to conduct registerable lobbying activities in Ontario and federally

The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $80,000
**Candidates must be legally authorized t work in Canada indefinitely and this is a hybrid role. Candidates based in Toronto will be required to work out of FHR’s Toronto location 3 days per week. Candidates based in Ottawa will predominately work from home, however, will be required to meet with team members and clients in person, as required.
