Ground-breaking public affairs

The foundation is set to build the most modern export grain terminal in the west

G3 Canada had a vision of building a smarter path from farmers’ fields to global markets, anchored by construction of the most modern export grain terminal on Canada’s west coast. Having already assisted G3 in the formation of their joint venture brand and through a major acquisition, we were invited in August 2015 to assist G3 with the permitting of a state-of-the-art export grain terminal in the City of North Vancouver, working through the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s Project and Environmental Review Process.

From early stage planning – through the Preliminary Review Phase Public Comment period and the Application Review Phase Public Consultation period – we provided a wide range of support to the team at G3 including:

Managing aspects of stakeholder, First Nation, and community consultation, including two project Open House/Information Sessions

  • Creation of public outreach materials, related to the project Application Submission, including proactive messaging development
  • Close liaison and collaborative materials development with more than six external consulting firms involved in the project application submission
  • Ongoing media relations and issues management

We worked with G3 and a range of project subcontractors to react and respond to a litany of project inquiries and developed comprehensive Public Consultation and Consideration reports. G3’s Category D project, categorized as the largest and most complex, was successfully granted a project permit by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority in May 2016, just nine months after entering the formal Project and Environmental Review Process.

In March 2017, we planned and managed a successful ground-breaking event and celebration for G3, to mark the start of construction. The event involved stakeholders, including local and international investment partners, representatives from multiple levels of government, industry partners, project suppliers, customers, First Nation leaders, and community organizations.

We continued to support G3 with stakeholder and community engagement through the grain terminal’s construction and commissioning phases (2016-2020). As Canada’s newest and most modern export grain terminal moves into full operation, we are proud to have played an integral role in an incredible success story for Canadian agriculture.
